Oberlin House

Built in 1847 during the height of the Ohio Canal Era, the Oberlin House is a New England Colonial “salt-box” style structure. The house was restored in the early 1970’s.
The house is a living history museum. Visitors are guided back in time by “Mrs. Oberlin” who narrates the tour as though chatting with travelers of more than a century ago.
The frame structure contains two rooms upstairs and two rooms downstairs. The structure was labeled the “Saltbox” reminiscent of salt containers that sat by the stoves of the nineteenth century kitchens.
The beautiful home is decorated and furnished with antiques suitable to the period.
The home was donated to the Canal Fulton Heritage Society by Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Mitchell. Mrs. Mitchell is a granddaughter of the Oberlin Family.
The home is open to the public only at announced times and appointment.
